This Wiki is devoted to the village of Nemacolin, Pennsylvania. It is a coal town (patch) designed, built, owned and operated by the Buckeye Coal Company - a subsidiary of the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company of Youngstown, Ohio. Nemacolin is located on the west bank of the Monongahela River at mile 77 downriver from the Grays Landing Lock and Dam. The mine development began in 1917 and the town was built during 1918 to 1924 by the Dravo Corporation. The houses were sold to the miners in 1946 and responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the town was transferred to Nemacolin Inc. The mine was sold to LTV Corp in 19?? and was closed in 1988. Peak population reached ???? in 19??. Nemacolin was considered to be a model mining town boasting many amenities lacking in typical coal mining towns in adjacent areas.
